Hawthorne celebrated its 10th anniversary of street dedications by honoring Private Joseph Gatto, USMC who was killed in action on September 17, 1944. Private Gatto’s name will be remembered on the corner of Columbus and Lincoln Avenues as Pvt. Joseph Gatto, USMC Way.

“This is the 10th anniversary of naming our street corners after our boys who went to war and never came back,” said Hawthorne Mayor Richard Goldberg during his remarks. “It’s a program we started because we felt as a community that we owed something to those families and the men who paid the ultimate price.”

This story originally ran in TAPinto Hawthorne.
